The Transformation of Brandy Upshaw

Today is Tuesday, which means it's Transformation Tuesday: a day when we come together to share stories of transformation within our community.

Today, we have the inspiring story of Brandy Upshaw

THE TRANSFORMATION:

My life has never been an easy one. The trauma began for me at a very young age, and continued in a big way throughout adulthood. From abuse, neglect, abandonment, to being trafficked in the sex trade to abusing drugs.

One thing just led to another. My life really started to spin out of control in October 2022. Although at the time I didn't see it, looking back it is very clear.

By April 2023, I was homeless and stuck in a very abusive relationship.

In September 2023, I found the courage to run from him and with nowhere to turn and very little hope, I reached out to Lauretta Charters at Naomi and Ruth Rehabilitation Centre. I was desperate but after talking with Lauretta on the phone and her prayers that way, Hope and a small bit of faith were planted and I was on my way to New Brunswick.

Once I arrived, I began the 12 Step Overcomers / Discipleship program at ShekinahGO, where I came to know Cal and Rose Maskery. Eventually, I moved from the Rehab to their Women's Sober Living home here in Moncton. This move gave me the opportunity not only to give back to the community through outreach but also to integrate back into society in a productive way, which gave me the second key to life.

I thank GOD first and always, but also both Naomi and Ruth, as well as ShekinahGO. For without their love, lessons and support throughout my journey, none of this would be possible.

Today I can say I have my own apartment and have been offered full time employment in a field very dear to my heart, which allows me to continue on a path of help for those still lost and hurting. Of course I have humbly accepted the offer.

To all those still struggling, I want to tell you there is light at the end of the tunnel. With God, all things truly are possible. Faith and Love are the main ingredients. Trust the process and God bless you all.

2 Corinthians 5:17 - anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone and a new one has begun.
